I did notice the superficial disfigurement that is on the outer shell of the lens, but this shouldn't cause this error as on occasions, the camera turns on, the lens extends I found your website and removing the batteries and memory card worked for me. Maybe also consider using a small vacuum cleaner around these openings to draw the sand out. Try grabbing and holding the smallest inner lens barrel at its furthest extended position, preventing it from returning to the camera. http://www.e18error.com/

But when i press the shutter button, the camera will not take a picture. Your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera\015\012which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the\015\012camera.

Believe it or not, one BIG contributor to lens errors is using a camera case. I tried all the steps. If not, remove the batteries and continue to step 11 where you have full access to the ribbon cable connector. Thanks for the post!
