I did two thing. 1) Remove the battery and replace with new batteries 2) Hold the Shutter button while I pressed the power button. When I turn it on the lens come out the lens error message shows and the camera shuts off. I can give more details if anyone needs them but you do need to be able to unsolder a couple of wires and the battery terminals.In any case the lens assembly Thanks for the help. I keep it in a padded case, away from dust, dirt and sand. More people have reported success with this method than with any of the other methods (see the polls in the right column). The hard knocks that teenagers can give a camera is the ultimate test. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix.
