Lenovo Z60t Fan Error
kind of thought so. Is this likely a cracked motherboard, loose solder joint or would a bad fan cause this? The source of the noise should come from the hub and the axis; either by wear or by poor lubrication. Anybody got any reccomendations? weblink
I just completed this operation on my work T61. I have just replaced my old fan with a new one, and have the same problem problem "fan error" may it be something else, that is wrong??? Any advise? What did help was to reset the BIOS to default.

i heard there where 2 temp. When I powered on the laptop..."Fan error" starts to appear and the laptop shuts down. I changed them to read "Maximum Battery" which is the same setting for when Battery Power is used, which is the only time the laptop is working appropriately. Another interesting note, my mouse is acting up and is sometimes unresponsive unless I minimize then re-maxamize the program I am attempting to use.

I followed your directions to get to the fan (short fan in this case) and it was a bit dirty but spun ok when I physically moved it. I used a small vacume to clean up the debris and eventually I cut far enouph into it that it released and I was able to remove the fan unit. The computer shuts down by itself put back in the battery and turn on the computer. Lots of dust came out. Once in windows I did a full backup. Now I can quit worrying and get everything done... I guess my fan is not rotating… I tried pressing Esc multiple times after switching on th laptop… it bypasses the fan Error and starts normally…! Tpfancontrol if the the video card overheats, will the OS or something warn me?
Yes, I do understand how the electronics market works and how quickly machines become obsolete and why it doesn't make that much sense to design for longevity or repair-but I still TKS for the post!! Making the fan assembly and heat synch all one piece and un removeable. let windows run it and disable or uninstall the lenovo power control software. Turn on the computer and you will get the same error.. When you replace the fan, you need to add thermal paste so there is good conductivity between the fan and the CPU.
My bigger issue was whether or not to apply thermal grease. If the fan is not clogged, the fan error is due to fan assembly malfunction. Thinkpad is well designed physiologically, though probably not esthetically, which makes us easy to replace its parts. We took the laptop to the repairer and he said that the IC need to be replaced (I don't have a clue what IC is).

Great forum here!!! How much time will it work without replacing the fan after I received the error for the first time? These speakers are pretty bad with very low volume, which is one of my complaints with Thinkpad laptops. Replaced the fan and screen.
