In fact a lot of KDE stuff was installed. Then try deleting your old kwallet so that you can recreate it. Because I am using my secondary wallets less frequently I cannot say, if the change came after upgrading to kde applications 14.12 or to 14.12.1. The problem occured after a "hard-sudden-unwanted" reboot of my computer, so I agree with Darek on #3 taht the problem occurs after a crash.

I cherry-picked this commit here, on the 4.12 branch an now the problem is gone, confirmed using the "testcase" wallet provided with the bug report. Error code -3 does indeed imply that there's a problem with the wallet file.
